This webinar will focus on the challenges and benefits of managing soil biology rather than relying only on chemically based systems, along with the key roles that soil microbes play in agroecosystems.
Agricultural soils can be a hostile environment for soil microbes. Current cropping systems remove carbon, destroy habitat, expose fields to erosion and discourage symbiotic relationships with plants. Our presenter will discuss the key roles that microbes play in nutrient cycling, increasing soil organic matter and improving soil structure. Soil microbes can be managed by manipulating what they eat and where they live using soil amendments (compost), cover crops, reduced tillage, and inoculants to result in healthy, productive soils.
This webinar is presented by USDA NRCS Science and Technology.
