Participate in this webinar to learn about implementing soil health principles in organic farming systems, including a discussion of the role of soil health in organic production and practices and challenges for organic farmers.
Soil health has long been recognized as a benefit of organic systems, however, new techniques and tools can be used to further enhance the connection between the above- and belowground systems. These techniques include organic no-till, using cover crop mixtures, and using periods of perennials in the rotation. The interactions between management, soil biology, and carbon storage will also be discussed in reference to reducing drought issues and potentially reversing climate change. This discussion will feature new research on soil health from the Rodale Institute, a leader in organic agriculture which hosts the longest-running side-by-side U.S. study comparing conventional chemical agriculture with organic methods.
This webinar is presented by the USDA NRCS East and West National Technology Support Centers.
